WOMEN RACE IN HIGH HEELS _ Some women struggle to walk in high heels, others find it easy, some
find it so easy they can sprint more than 300 feet in them. Hundreds of women on Sunday entered a high-heel running race, sprinting through the center of Brussels, Belgium, in a bid to win a $15,000 shopping spree. Each wearing their finest stilettos, many of the 'athletes' opted for matching dresses. Entrants in the Louise High Heels event had to wear regulation high-heels that were a minimum of 2-3/4-inches high.
FERRARI GOING GREEN _ If you've been holding off on buying a new Ferrari until the car goes green, I have some good news: the sportscar maker says it intends to cut its vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half and is working on developing hybrid vehicles. A Ferrari spokesman said the company's immediate goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 40 percent by 2012.
STATUE OF LIBERTY'S CROWN MAY REOPEN _ The National Park Service is considering reopening the Statue of Liberty's crown for the first time since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The park service has requested bids to study what it would take to safely open the Statue of Liberty's headpiece to the public. The statue's base, pedestal and lower observation deck reopened in 2004 after a $20 million effort to enhance fire safety. But the crown and its interior observation deck remained closed because the Park Service said there was no way to evacuate them safely in an emergency. The narrow spiral staircase that leads up to the crown doesn't comply with fire and building codes.
HIGH-SPEED INTERNET USE UP, BUT DROPPING IN LOW-INCOME HOMES _ Besides $4 lattes and dinners out, some Americans are also saving money by cutting cord on high-speed Internet. While just over half of most adults have high-speed Internet, a new study shows lower income households are opting for slower speed or no access to save money.
FIND PEOPLE WHO LOOK LIKE YOU _ A new social network allows users to find people they look like... and then make friends with them. Users upload a picture of themselves and unique facial recognition technology suggests a list of 10 look-alikes who also use the site. Members on ILookLikeYou.com then vote for the best matches or contact their facial matches on the site. The founders of the site hope it will not only enable people to meet new friends but also find identical twins separated at birth or missing people.
